Benefact – December and January 2015/16

Hadnall Church by Kath Evans

I can’t believe that we are once again looking forward to Christmas with all that that entails. It can be a stressful time for some as well as being very busy for us all. As we look forward to our own festivities perhaps we can spare a moment or even a pound or two for those less fortunate than ourselves.

But before we look ahead to Christmas let’s review the last couple of months.

The School and Church Harvest Services were once again well attended and a blessing to all. Produce was donated to the Food Bank at Whitchurch.

These services were followed by two events at the New Inn very kindly organised by Sully on behalf of the Church. (A Harvest Auction and a Quiz and Pumpkin growing contest). The Auction raised £205.45 and the Quiz £148. They were very entertaining and “fruitful” events if you’ll excuse the pun! Thank you Sully for all that you do for us. It is greatly appreciated.

Our Coffee mornings continue and the years’ calendar finished with a Coffee Morning in the Village Hall on Thursday 19th November. This was organised primarily by Diane Clarke and friends. We were once again treated to an array of home made cakes and tea or coffee and there was a wonderful community atmosphere. Hadnall Sew and Sew also attended with an extensive table of Christmas related items for sale and raise the princely sum of £791

At the last count. Well done ladies.

The 2016 Calendar of Coffee Mornings will be announced soon.

At the time of writing we are still waiting for our Concert on Saturday 21st November when we will hear the Bayston Hill Village Choir. News on that to follow.

I apologise for omitting our thanks for the Riders and Striders in our last news but once again Gordon and others have done us proud. Tom wasn’t able to take part this year but I believe we have still raised in excess of £900. Thank you all.

The work on the toilet and kitchen facilities continues slowly but surely. However, there has been work carried out on the heating with a new radiator fitted behind the organ to heat the passageway and also a new control system that allows the heating to be on constantly at a low temperature, with increased temp for services etc. We hope that the effect will be seen at services during the winter as the church gradually warms up.

We will be having the usual services and festivities for Christmas and briefly they include the following:

Community Meal (organised by Lesley Walton at the Bothy)

Wednesday 2nd December 6.00 for 6.30pm

Christmas Messy Church – Saturday 12th December: 10.30 – 12.30

Hadnall Village Hall.

Christingle – (Astley and Hadnall combined) at Hadnall – Sunday 13th December

10.00 am

Carols Round the Tree – Friday 18th December 7.00pm

Carol Service (Organised by W.I.) Sunday 20th December 4.30 pm

Crib Service – Thursday 24th December 4.00 pm

Christmas Communion Service – Thursday 24th December 9.30 pm

United Benefice Service – Sunday 27th December (At Hadnall) 10.30 am

We look forward to seeing you all at these events and services and wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Finally a reminder that Rob and Pat will be on holiday again for January so we shall follow the pattern of United Benefice Services each Sunday. Morning Prayers and Bible study will continue as normal.

We wish Rob and Pat a very happy and restful holiday with their family.
