Benefact – February and March 2016

Hadnall church – By Kath Evans

A Happy New Year to everyone, I know it’s a little late but early December was just a little too early! In our garden, Spring was starting to look as if it was near with daffodils, snowdrops and primroses coming out as early as 1st Jan but these have now been well and truly frosted. Lets hope it doesn’t kill them off altogether.

Christmas was once again a lovely time in our church with successful services and lots of carols. A great big thank you to everyone who helped to decorate the church inside and out and contributed in any way to making it all a very special time. We even managed to sing our carols around the tree this year instead of having to go inside.

I must also say a very special thanks to everyone who helps in anyway with the running of the church throughout the year. There are too many to name individually but they all know who they are and each one is just as important.

Thank you all.

The concert in November went off very well and was enjoyed by all who attended with mulled wine (non – alcoholic but lovely) and cakes and savouries to add to the enjoyment. A total of £509.44 was raised.   Look out for the programme of events for 2016!

One addition to our timetable this year will be Coffee Mornings on Saturdays as well as our regular coffee mornings in different homes. The new Coffee mornings will be held in the church on the first Saturday of each month beginning on Saturday 5th March. The difference will be that there will be a charge for the Saturday mornings of £1.00. This will cover coffee/tea and cakes so there won’t be a separate charge for these. Hopefully it will raise a little income and give more people the opportunity to join us.

Please do try and attend both if you can. The next regular coffee morning will be on 18th February at 1 Pool Drive with John and myself. Unfortunately we didn’t have details in time to publicise January but I hope you all managed to join us at Jan’s on 21st .

With the coming of the new year we look forward once again to our Annual Parish Meetings and would ask everyone to consider whether they could consider joining us on the PCC . If you want to know what is involved just ask any of the current members. The meeting is provisionally set for Thursday 21st April.

Other dates for your diary:

Messy Church – Saturday 13th February in Village Hall at Hadnall – 10.30 – 12.30

A Pet Service – Sunday 10th April at our family service again in Hadnall. 10.00

Mothering Sunday Service – Sunday 6th March at Astley at the altered time of 9.45 am

Palm Sunday Service – Sunday 20th March with Holy Communion at Hadnall after the walk from Astley starting at 10.30 with the Blessing of the Palm Crosses.

(Donations of cakes for lunch will be appreciated. Please let Jayne or Judi know if you can help)

Look out for other services including Easter and Holy week in the insert to the Benefact.

Finally there will soon be a basket at the back of the church with envelopes for donations towards Easter Lilies. Please pass any donations to Jayne, Kath or Judi rather than leave them in the church. If you want to donate an Arum lily, the cost will be a minimum f £2.50. Please put the name of your loved one on the envelope and your donation inside with a note of your preferred lily. Thank you.
