Benefact – December – January 2016/2017

I hope that no one suffered too badly from the recent Tornado and hopefully all storms will now have subsided.

I can’t believe that we are once again looking forward to Christmas with all that that entails. It can be a stressful time for some as well as being very busy for us all. As we look forward to our own festivities perhaps we can spare a moment or even a pound or two for those less fortunate than ourselves.

But before we look ahead to Christmas let’s review the last couple of months.

The School and Church Harvest Services were once again well attended and a blessing to all. These services were followed by a Quiz at the New Inn very kindly organised by Sully on behalf of the Church. Thank you Sully for all that you do for us. It is greatly appreciated. Also a big thank you for the lovely floral decorations in the church and for all the help given.

Our Coffee mornings continue and the years’ calendar finished with Afternoon Tea in the Village Hall on Thursday 24th November. At the time of writing this had not taken place so report to follow. Our Saturday Coffee Morning will be on 3rd December so I hope you receive this in time to join us. It will be £2.00 instead of £1 as we have Clive Hand bell ringers coming to entertain us.

The 2017 Calendar of Coffee Mornings will be announced soon.

We had a very pleasant Punch and Pate evening at Eric and Judi’s house on Friday 18th November and a good time was had by all. Total raised was £336.15. Thanks to everyone who helped in any way or attended.

A different Service for Advent was held at Hadnall on Sunday 27th Dec. at 4.30 pm. This was an Advent Carol Service. Report to follow next time.

Other events to be reported on next time are – Community Meal (organised by Lesley Walton at the Bothy) Wednesday 30th November 6.00 for 6.30pm

And Christmas Messy Church – Saturday 26th November: 10.30 – 12.30

Hadnall Village Hall.

Other than these we will be having the usual services and festivities for Christmas and briefly they include the following:

Christingle – (Astley and Hadnall combined) at Astley– Sunday 11th December

10.00 am

Carols Round the Tree – Friday 16th December 7.00pm

Carol Service (Organised by W.I.) Sunday 18th December 4.00 pm

Crib Service – Saturday 24th December 4.00 pm

Christmas Communion Service – Saturday 24th December 9.30 pm

United Benefice Service – Sunday 1st January 2017 (Grinshill) 10.30 am

We look forward to seeing you all at these events and services and wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and a Peaceful New Year.

Finally a reminder that Rob and Pat will be on holiday again for January so we shall follow the pattern of United Benefice Services each Sunday. Morning Prayers and Bible study will continue as normal.

We wish Rob and Pat a very happy and restful holiday with their family.
