Benefact – June/July 2017

The Easter services once again went well and the church looked beautiful with all the Spring Flowers complementing the Lilies. Thank you to everyone who decorated the church or helped in anyway and with the Spring Clean of the church.

But Easter has now been and gone and in a couple of weeks it will be Pentecost when the church as we know it actually began with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the disciples.

Unfortunately with the coming of Pentecost it means that we finally have to say farewell to Rob and Pat (although they won’t be far away). Rob’s final service with us is actually on Pentecost Sunday 4th June at 11.15am here in Hadnall. It will be followed by a buffet lunch in the Village Hall, so do come along and let them know how much they have meant to us over the years. If you are not able to make it on the Sunday then come along to our Coffee Morning on Saturday 3rd June which will be free that day and will start at 10.00 am instead of 10.30. Rob is unable to be there for long as he has a service in Clive and has to leave by 11.15 but there will be the opportunity to say adieu to them then. I am sure it will not be farewell as a friend though for a lot of us. Thank you Rob and Pat for all that you have done for us over the years and God Bless you both.

Talking of Coffee Mornings, there will be the usual Coffee Morning in the church at the beginning of July back to normal time and with a charge of £1 for all the tea/coffee you can drink and cakes you can eat. It really is a good way to socialise and meet people and share fellowship. This is also true of the monthly Thursday Coffee Morning that are still taking place and are free to all, not just churchgoers. If anyone has difficulty getting there then do please ring someone and ask for a lift. June’s Thursday morning is on 15th June and will be with Jean and Gordon Corbett on London Road Shrewsbury, starting at 10.30. July will be on 20th July and will actually be in the church thanks to Margaret Radford, Margaret Palmer and Sylvia Wellings.

Going back to Easter, we had a lovely time with the Easter Bingo that was attended by young and old and in between. It was very different but fun and raised over £200 for church funds.

Thanks must go to the Sew and Sews who kindly donated £750 towards the purchase of a new mower and strimmer for the churchyard, which are gratefully received. It is once again looking good and draws many comments. However, due to various factors the volunteers are sadly depleted at present and extra helpers would be welcomed with open arms if only for an occasional hour or so. If you are able to help please contact Ann Parry on 210362. (All equipment is provided)

Well what happened with Messy Church? I can only assume it was mainly the clash with the Kid’s Fest in the Quarry or maybe a breakdown in communications. Whatever the reason we had no one attend on 13th May. This is most unusual and I hope it’s not a sign of things to come. The theme of “The Lost Son” will therefore be carried forward to the next session, which is on 5th August at 10.30 as usual. Do put the date in your diary now.

Another date to keep in mind is “Hadnall’s got Talent” and that will be on 14th October in Hadnall Village Hall. So get rehearsing now !!!

Please note that from 11th June there will of course be changes to scheduled service times as it is impossible to continue with the four services weekly during Interregnum. Do please look carefully at notice boards and particularly the service schedule included with the Benefact. It is planned to have a Eucharist service and a Service of the Word most weeks except for weeks with special services or fifth Sundays.
