Benefact Article – December/January 2017/8

Once again we are approaching the Christmas Season and I just can’t believe the year has gone so quickly. We will still be celebrating all the usual Christmas Services despite the fact that we haven’t yet found a new Priest. Do come and join in the celebrations.

We begin with the Advent Carol Service for the Benefice on 3rd December at 4.00pm. This was a lovely service last year so let’s make it as good if not better. It will be followed by refreshments. The Carols are Advent Carole’s, not Christmas Carols.

Other services are as follows:

10th December – 4.00pm WI Carol Service Followed by Mince Pies and Coffee.

15th December – 6.30pm Carols Round the Tree – Mulled Wine and Mince Pies

24th December – 4.00pm Crib Service
                                  9.30pm Christmas Communion

The School Carol Service is on 13th December at 9.45am and all are welcome to join them.

For all other services please see the Benefact Insert.

Messy Church was once more buzzing in October with 7/8 families celebrating “Peace and Comfort”. The next session is unfortunately not until 13th January 2018 because of the busy time in December. Our theme then is to be “Messy Epiphany”. Look out for posters and Social Media reminders. Remember it is open to the whole Benefice and even beyond. If anyone would like to help with the Organisation, planning or helping on the day, do let me know as it only works with enough helpers. Thanks to all those who regularly help, it is much appreciated.

Our Coffee mornings also continued with the Christmas Coffee Morning at the home of Diane and Peter Clarke instead of the Village Hall. Report next time. I do hope you had the message in time to attend. The Saturday Coffee Morning is on 2nd December and will include the Clive Handbell Ringers once again. Charge will be £2.00. From the New Year remember that the charge will be dropped and a box left for Donations instead. We are then able to claim Gift Aid on all the donations received.

It was great to see that the Smartie Tube collection raised about £220 in the finish. Thank you everyone. Let’s see if we can top this next year!!

Looking back, both the Church and the School Harvest went very well with lots of produce and flowers making the church look very much like a true Harvest Celebration. All produce went to the Ark or Barnabas Church Food Bank and was gratefully received. Once again, thanks to everyone who helped make our celebrations such a pleasure.

Report on the Bingo Night will follow next time.

On a more sombre note, we combined with Clive and the Benefice on Remembrance Sunday, to remember all those who had given their lives or had their lives changed for ever by two world wars and many other conflicts. The children from the school also attended and laid shields at the altar to the men of Hadnall and Astley.

Looking forward, there is a very varied programme of Fund Raising and Social Event in the New Year. Briefly these are:
