Benefact Article Feb – March 2018

Well, what a mixed time we have had over the last two months. We had once again, a successful Advent Carol Service for the whole Benefice and then just as we were looking forward to the Christmas Services we were hit with snow. Unfortunately that meant that we were unable to go ahead with the W.I. Carol Service as planned and we apologise for that. However, It soon left us so we were then able to go ahead with all other services ; “Carols round the Tree” (Thank you Irene, Margaret and friends once again) Crib Service and Christmas Communion. Also the Services for the School and Crackerjacks, what joyous times they were. I don’t think I have ever seen so many children in the church at one time.
Thank you to everyone who helped in any way to make the church look so festive and also helped with services, etc. in fact anyone who helped and continue to help in any way. Plus a very big thanks to the team who illuminated the tree and put up the Star. What a lovely Christmas welcome to the village that was.
Remember that we still have our Christingle Service to look forward to on Sunday 11th February in place of the normal Family Service. I know we usually have this before Christmas but it is often deferred to February in some areas. Do please come and join us at 10.30 am on that day.
Another apology is due I’m afraid as unfortunately we also had to postpone Messy Church scheduled for 13th January. This was due to illness. We hope to reschedule as soon as possible so look out for the posters and FB.
We recommence the Thursday Coffee Mornings in February with Chris and Anna on Thursday 15th Feb at Cherry Trees starting at 10.30 am. The full years programme will be completed on that day. If you would like to host a Coffee Morning please let Chris or Anna know.
For all other services please see the Benefact Insert.

Polite Request.
Can we please ask that, if you park in the parking area behind the church on a regular basis, that you kindly vacate the area for Services and Functions as you will appreciate parking is at a premium on these occasions. Thank You

Social Scene.
The Christmas Bingo was again very successful with around 50 people attending, mainly being young families who are always very welcome, all the prizes were chocolate and around £126 was raised. The next one is at Easter, on Saturday, 24th March, eyes down at 6pm.
Christmas just seems a blur in the back of the mind now doesn’t it? We now have to get active with our 2018 programme. The first Saturday Coffee Morning went very well, we are now asking for a donation to come in rather than charge as we can Gift Aid donations, and this makes quite a difference to our income and with having to pay the excess on two insurance claims we will need every penny that we can raise!
The next Coffee morning is on 3rd February in church from 10.30am to midday. All are very welcome, as the saying goes ‘ you are not a stranger, only a friend we are waiting to meet’, March is on the 3rd and April the 7th.

Tuesday, 13th February is Pancake Day, and Lesley Walton has kindly invited anyone who likes pancakes to join her from 6pm, at her home 3, Pool Road.
On Friday, 23rd February we are holding a Souper Soups and Savouries Evening at Astley Lodge, Shrewsbury Road, 7pm to 9pm, tickets will be £7.50 each and are available from Judi on 210436 or Wendy 210491. You will be able to sample various flavours of soups some you will know some you may not! There will also be a raffle and bottle stall.
Sunday, April 8th sees the return of our Pet Service in church, more details nearer the time, but all pets are welcome real or otherwise. I will be bringing our wooden life sized sheep! Till the next cup of coffee!
