Benefice News August/September 2018

Well, after a year of waiting, we have finally welcomed Paul with his licensing Service presided over by Bishop Michael on Saturday 9th June in Hadnall. After the service, we celebrated with refreshments on the lawn behind the church and as usual the four churches rose to the occasion with sandwiches, cakes etc. with plenty for everyone. We hope that Paul will settle down with us and have a happy and Blessed Ministry in our Benefice.

Back to domestic matters and our fund raising activities, I am please to say that this year I was able to attend our Pimms and Puds evening and was able to enjoy at least a couple of the many puds on offer, washed down with a pleasant glass of Pimms. Thank you to Judi and Eric for their hospitality once again and for all those who contributed to the occasion. I believe the sum raised exceeded £500 so very well done.

Future events are “The Scarecrow weekend” on the 8th and 9th September. I hope you are all beginning to make your artistic efforts (or at least planning them) and we look forward to seeing them all. The theme is “Anything goes” so no restrictions!! There is a small charge for entry and winner is selected by public vote over the two days. Refreshments will be available and there will be all the usual stalls.

On the same weekend on the Saturday 8th it is also the “Ride and Stride” organised by Shropshire Historic Churches. If you wish to take part or to sponsor someone else, then please see Judi Pridding (210436). Half of money raised is returned to each church taking part. See posters for full details.

Saturday Coffee mornings continue on Saturday 4th August and 1st September. Thursday Coffee mornings also continue in most months although no details are currently available for September.
June was with Judi and Eric, and July took place in the church courtesy of Margaret Radford, Margaret Palmer and Jan Tonge. August will again be in the church on Thursday 16th with myself, Kath Evans. Do support all these events as they are very informal and friendly gatherings. Times of all Coffee mornings are 10.30 – 12.00.

Messy Church once again took place on Saturday 30th June with the theme of “True family” talking about all of us being part of the family of Jesus Christ and brothers and sisters together. Once again thanks to all helpers and families who joined us. Next messy Church will probably be early October as so many are away over the summer so look out for details nearer the time. If anyone is interested in helping with the organisation, preparation or on the day itself then please let me know. (210445). We also have to give a very big thank you to Hadnall Sew and Sews who very kindly made a generous donation of £100 to Messy Church for the hire of the Village Hall. The children made a Thank You card and it was presented to the Chairperson of Sew and Sews (Mrs Diane Clark) before we sat down to lunch.Thank you ladies, it is much appreciated by everyone.

Hadnall School leaver’s service took place in the church on Weds 18th July at 9.30pm. This is always well attended by families as well as the children and is an emotional time for all. We wish the children well as they go up to Senior School. This year we have said goodbye to 12 children with copies of a Youth Bible as a farewell gift.

Please do take careful note of your insert with the Service Times for August and September as these are now beginning to change with more services added and times changing. All services will be displayed as usual on church notice boards so please bear with us until a pattern is established to suit everyone as much as is possible. Thank you all for your patience over the interregnum and we now look forward to the future with optimism.
