Benefice News October – November 2018

After several weeks of hot sun and no rain we now seem to be well into Autumn and Harvest season. Our Harvest service here in Hadnall will be on 14th October at 11.00am and this will be followed by lunch in the Village Hall. Lunch this time will be casseroles and puddings rather that soup and cake so do come along and join us. If you have any produce spare then we would welcome any contributions to make the church look festival and representing a traditional harvest. All produce will be donated to a good cause afterwards.

The regular coffee mornings continue with Saturday 6th Oct and 3rd Nov. There will also be a Thursday Coffee Morning in the church on 18th October hosted by Lesley Walton. Please do continue to support the coffee mornings on a Thursday even if you come on a Saturday. There are never too many times to share fellowship and friendship over coffee and cake.

Judi has reported on our social activities but just an advance warning to look our for details on our Christmas Bingo on Saturday 24th November in the Village hall.

All Service details are printed in the Benefact and are displayed on the Church Noticeboard so please take note of new service times.

I can’t believe that next time we will be talking about Christmas and New Year. Where has the year gone again.

Thanks to everyone who helped and supported our Scarecrow weekend and the Ride and Stride.

I must apologise for the fact that Messy Church was not able to take place on Saturday 13th October as unfortunately there was a mix up on the booking and the hall was not available.  Because of the busy season it is not possible to meet again before christmas so we wish everybody a Blessed Christmas and Happy new year in advance.

To avoid this happening in the future I have now booked the hall for the second Saturday in January 12th, March 9th, May 11th, July 13th, September 7th and November 9th of 2019.

Please put those dates in your diaries ready.  We will also have a more structured start to the sessions with a gathering at the beginning to talk about the theme and how the crafts fit in.  Crafts will then begin at 10.45 and the session will then follow the usual pattern.

Let’s start a New Year of Messy Church together and celebrate.

Hadnall Church Social Report.

Rain greeted us on Saturday 8th September as we were setting up the Church Lawns for our Scarecrow Weekend, and continued to try and dampen our spirits most of the afternoon! However we rose above it and received 16 entries for Scarecrows divided into two sections: children and adult. Those who came to view them had the opportunity to vote for their favourite one in each section and the results were announced on the Sunday afternoon just before the close. Winner of the children’s was Joseph Grey with his Indian and second were Ella and Immy Caley with their Nurse. In the senior section Alison Wantless was runaway winner with Harry and Megan (a huge amount of time and detail was in this entry) with Womens Club coming second with their Hula Hula girl. Well done everybody. Guessing the weight of the Scarecrow cake was won by Rosie Duxbury on the Saturday and Jayne Hill on Sunday, with the cakes being the prizes. Turnout was disappointing but so was the weather and we made an overall profit of £330.63 for church funds. A big thankyou to all who took part and attended on the weekend. We really do appreciate it. If anyone knows who has taken the Policeman’s helmet please let me know as this happened last time as well!

The Ride and Stride took place on the Saturday, and we provided refreshments to all who called in for their papers to be signed confirming that they had called in. Our own Jayne Hill valiently walked to our four churches during the morning taking a little over three hours! Anyone who still owes her sponsor money could they please pay it as soon as possible.

Our next fundraiser is a Christmas Bingo in the village hall on Saturday 24th November with Eyes Down at 6pm. This is increasingly popular with families, most of the prizes are chocolate. There will also be a raffle and light refreshments.

Our December coffee morning date has changed to the 8th December in the church with Clive Hand Bells entertaining us.
