Benefice News April/May 19

Our Saturday morning coffee mornings continue to thrive with more newcomers being welcomed into the village. It runs on the first Saturday of the month in church from 10.30 to midday. There is no charge but donations are welcomed. The next are on 6th April, 4th May and 1st June.

Community Coffee mornings also continue to be well attended. These are now being held in church but hosted by different people each month. They are on the third Thursday again 10.30 to 12 noon.  If you would like to host  ( provide the coffee and cake) there is a list in the back of church with a few dates still available. Next dates are 18th April and 16th May.

Our new venture of Nibble and Natter has started off very positively, this is held on the fourth Thursday of the month, in church 11-1pm, and is aimed at people who would enjoy a couple of hours company and chat over some soup and bread roll. This again is free and open to all, if you need transport ring either Lesley 210287 or Judi 210436. Next are on 25th April and 23rd May.

Pancake Day was celebrated at Lesley’s who was kept busy making pancakes of all flavours throughout the evening for all her guests.  Almost £60 was raised in donations. Thanks to all who attended.

The World Day of Prayer was organised by the Year 6 pupils in church and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended, refreshments were served afterwards.

Future fund raising includes our popular Easter Family Bingo with all the prizes being chocolate! It is on Saturday 13th April in the Village Hall eyes down at 6pm.

On18th May we had hoped to arrange a ‘Have a go Craft Day’ but due to a clash of dates we have had to postpone it but hope to incorporate it into another function.

There is a list in the back of church of all our proposed functions for the year, please take one for your diary dates.

Judis

Thanks to Judi and the fund raising team for all their hard work over the year. It is much appreciated by the congregation and the community as a whole.

All these activities have now been made a lot easier by the further opening up of the back of the church simply by turning round one of the pews.

Another fund raising effort is our Smartie Tube initiative (copied from Clive, thanks) which is now under way again.  If you would like to take part please see me and I will provide you with a tube of smarties.  What you do in return is to eat them and then fill up the tube with 20p coins (or pound coins!).  They will be collected in again during the Harvest time.  Last year this raised over £300 so lets see if we can top this.

All Lent and Easter services will be shown elsewhere in the Benefact, so please retain this list for your information.  Otherwise see web sites or the list outside church.

A report on the Souper Soups and Savouries and the Church AGM will be given in the next magazine as they had not taken place at the time of writing.

Finally I am happy to report that Messy Church went ahead as planned on 9th March and was attended by 13 families (including 4 new families).  We had a lovely time making gifts for our Mothers or those caring for us and hearing how Jesus cared for his Mother even whilst on the Cross.  Our next session is due on 11th May and will be just after our 5th Birthday.  We began in the Village Hall on 26th April 2014. Where did the time go?  Hopefully we can find a theme that will fit in with our Anniversary.
